How to Unlock Skills in +1 Forge Blade Loot
The documented way Skills are gained and used in +1 Forge Blade Loot: they come with the swords you forge, fire on Q and R, and show on the sword's own tooltip.
In +1 Forge Blade Loot you don't buy a Skill, claim one from a menu, or speak to an NPC to receive it — no skill shop, unlock button, purchase price, or unlock screen appears in the game's official description or in recorded gameplay. Skills come attached to the swords you forge. Equip a sword that carries one and it fires in combat on the Q key; two-skill swords add an R skill. The practical route to your first Skill is therefore the game's own core loop, and the sword's tooltip is where you confirm what you unlocked.
Skills ride the normal progression path
The game's official description lists Skills as one promise inside the main loop: "Click to Train to Gain Power ⚒️ Shape & Forge Your Own Sword! ⚔️ Slay Monsters for Rare Loots ✨ Unlock Powerful Skills & Traits 👑 Forge the Ultimate Sword!" A third-party guide describing that same loop adds that skills and traits "sit on that same path" and "are unlocked as you keep going" — clicking to train power, forging stronger swords, and fighting monsters for rarer loot. That is the only stated gate for Skills in any available source, and it names no specific level, power value, or price.
How to get a Skill you can use
In one recorded full playthrough, this is the route that produced every Skill the player used:
- Forge a sword. Progress through normal play and complete the forging step — tapping the blade through sharpening at the forge until the sword completes. The same session also shows a "script" option at the forge that does the tapping for you; the player noted it "doesn't seem to cost money." For the full forging sequence, see the sword forging guide.
- Read the sword's tooltip. Skills are listed on the sword itself, not in a separate menu. The display states what each Skill does — in the recorded session, one newly forged sword's tooltip listed two Skills, including one with a 9-second cooldown that "can deal up to 400% damage."
- Equip it and press Q (or R) in combat. The player's first observed Skill appeared on a sword during the dungeon's stage-3 boss fight — "it has a skill too. By pressing the Q key. But it's only Rare level" — and was used repeatedly through the stage. A later sword carried two Skills: a rapid slash on Q and a dash-and-slash on R, both demonstrated in a boss fight.
Skills observed across one session
Every Skill documented in the recorded playthrough followed the same sword-based pattern:
| Sword in the recorded session | Skills it carried | Activation |
|---|---|---|
| Early dungeon sword (stage-3 boss fight) | One Skill, described as "only Rare level" | Q |
| Mid-session sword | Two Skills: a rapid slash and a dash-and-slash | Q + R |
| Newly forged higher-tier sword | Two Skills; tooltip lists each one's damage and cooldown — one had a 9-second cooldown and up to 400% damage | Q + R |
| Late-game sword (stage-18 boss) | A long-range, high-damage Skill used to help beat the boss | R |
Stronger swords carrying more and stronger Skills is consistent across that whole session — but it's an observed pattern from a single playthrough, never stated as a rule by any source.
If pressing Q does nothing
- Your sword may not carry a Skill. Check its tooltip first. In the recorded session, two-Skill swords showed up on better forges.
- The Skill may be on cooldown. A 9-second cooldown is documented on one Skill, so wait and press again.
- Don't chase the dungeon's power numbers. Dungeon stages post power requirements for entering that stage — those gates govern the dungeon, not Skills. No numeric Skill requirement has ever been shown.
What no source pins down
It's worth knowing exactly where the documentation ends: no official or third-party source shows an explicit Skill requirement, price, or unlock moment, and no unlock notification or confirmation screen appears in the recorded session. That Skills come with forged swords is an observed pattern, not a confirmed trigger — the absence of a visible price doesn't prove Skills are free, it just means no price is documented. Two more open questions: whether a Skill stays usable if its sword is unequipped or sold, and whether Traits (advertised alongside Skills) unlock the same way — that's covered separately in how to unlock traits.
Once a Skill is on your sword, the Skills page breaks down what each ability does, and the combat guide shows how to put Q and R to work in fights.
